Episode 18 (year 5): Decoding NVLD: History, Challenges, Advocacy

This episode explores Nonverbal Learning Disorder (NVLD), a condition marked by strong verbal skills but challenges with spatial reasoning, motor coordination, and social understanding. It covers its history, personal stories, and the ongoing fight for recognition and better support.

In this episode, we explore the history and impact of Nonverbal Learning Disorder (NVLD), a condition characterized by strong verbal skills but significant challenges with spatial reasoning, motor coordination, and social interpretation. From its identification in the mid-20th century by pioneers like Byron Rourke to personal stories of resilience, we delve into the evolving understanding of NVLD. We also highlight the ongoing struggle for recognition in diagnostic manuals and education systems, as well as efforts by advocates to raise awareness and improve interventions. Whether you're new to NVLD or seeking deeper insights, this episode sheds light on a complex and often misunderstood condition.

Episode 10 (year 3): Being an Advocate for Yourself at Work, School and in Personal Life

Have you ever had difficulty advocating for yourself in school, work, or your personal life because you are neurodivergent? I had experienced this many times in my life, especially when I wasn’t working for my parents or trying to describe why I needed extra help from a professor in college. The accommodation programs I used in college for NLD were: Kurizewhiel 3000, Sonnocent, and Audionotaker.

Episode 28 (year 2): NLDers Need Love, Support, and Advocacy

Have you ever wished you could be loved, supported, or advocated for more? Or felt like you wish others needed you or your help? I have felt these emotions due to NLD. Fortunately for me, I do have a supportive family that does advocate for me but sometimes I wish others outside my family would do the same. But how can they if they don’t know what NLD is? Aren’t aware of it? Or don’t know how to help me and others like me? This is why I advocate for myself and others more because I suspect that may not have enough of that in their life from the ones who they need it from the most.
